TGO Challenge 2017: Day 3 – Inbhirfhaolain to Kingshouse Bunkhouse

The Lairig Gartain – it’s quite close now

The hospitality of the Oakley HC crowd had been fantastic and my morale was high and stomach was full! They were heading to the Kingshouse also, some by car and a few cycling. My route took me along the road a bit and across to Glencoe via the Lairig Gartain.

I spotted the cyclists on their way to Kingshouse while climbing up the Lairig and got a few zoom photographs.

The Lairig Gartain is a great route and the views down Glen Etive are fantastic. You also get a good view of the devastation and extent of the recent scrub fire.

Looking back to Glen Etive

Almost at the Kingshouse

Apart from a heavy hail shower of about 15 minutes, the leg to the main road was uneventful, and then there was another 15 minute hail shower. Then it was a bit along the road to join the West Highland Way. This was quite busy with walkers heading for the Devil’s Staircase, with just me heading East. I eventually reached the Kingshouse and booked into the bunkhouse. I was in a 4 bedded room. The bunkhouse is quite new and the facilities are good apart from the “common room” for making tea etc. This has very uncomfortable seats, a microwave, fridge, a hot water geyser and a sink. No cups or cutlery. The drying room is OK, but not good enough for drying stuff that has been washed.

I had a snack in the cafe/diner when I arrived and had a meal later on. The food is OK, but the choice is a bit limited.
